The Lord of The Rings VS The Hobbits
In the past two decades, we have watched many great movies at the cinemas. Some movies stand alone, and most of them have a sequel or prequel. Two of the most famous movies with sequel are The Lord of The Rings Trilogy (LOTR) and The Hobbits Trilogy (TH). Both movies are based on a novel with the same titles as the movies and written by an english writer, J.R.R Tolkien. Surprisingly, even though the last sequel ended 6 years ago, most movie mania nowadays are still discussing and arguing about which one is better than another. The most opinion standing with LOTR assumes that it is better than TH, but i will compare it from 3 points, such as the protagonist, plot twist, and supportive characters.
First of all, i going to discuss about the protagonists from LOTR and TH. The main protagonists in LOTR were 2 hobbits called Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee. Frodo and Sam were friends and both of them carried the same mission, to destroy The One Ring. On the other hand, the main protagonist in TH was Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo Baggins was a hobbit, and Frodo , hobbit who i mentioned before, was Bilbo Baggins’ nephew.
Secondly, the plots of LOTR movies were about destroying The One Ring and fought against super villain, called Sauron and his allies. In addition, the fights against Sauron caused some epic battles in LOTR such as Battle of Helm’s Deep and Battle of the Palennor Fields. In contrast, the plots of TH started with Bilbo finding the One Ring, and also about few races fought against Dragon called Smaug to capture the treasure. The most epic battle held in the last episodes named The Battle of The Five Armies.
The last but not least thing is about supportive characters. Supportive characters in LOTR were filled by warriors and a hero from different races, namely Aragorn from Men, Legolas from Elves, Gimli from Dwarves, and Gandalf the white wizard. All of them supported Frodo and Sam to destroy the One Ring at Mount Doom and fought against Sauron’s Army. Meanwhile, The Supportive Characters in TH were dwarves, a few men and elves. In the final Battle of the five armies, Dwarves, Men, and Elves fought against Orcs and Wargs.
In Conclusion, according to 3 points that already described in the previous passages, the LOTR and TH have a similarity and also the differences. The similarity came from the protagonist. Both of the movies protagonists were Hobbits supported by Men, Elves, and Dwarves. However, the differences of two movies came from plot twist. LOTR had more epic battles than TH. LOTR had more than 2 epic battles and more races involved in that battles. That significant factor if compared to TH, in my opinion, only has 1 epic battle in the Battle of the Five Armies. To sum up, I believe that the number of epic battles becomes the reason why most of the fans from both movies think that LOTR is far better than TH.
